Natural Indigo Finland
Organic dyes offer opportunities for responsible business.
Natural Indigo produces natural dyes on an industrial scale, which can be used in textiles, cosmetics, biodegradable products, the paper and packaging industry, and design, among other things.
Natural dyes, such as indigo from woad (Isatis tinctoria), offer a less environmentally burdening alternative to synthetic dyes. In addition to woad, dyes are also produced from primary production and industry side streams, for example, onion skins and willow.
Natural Indigo Finland, founded in 2017, has partnered with many Finnish brands in recent years, including the globally known Marimekko.
Natural Indigo is currently mapping partners for the different stages of the value chain. As sources of raw materials, side streams from the forest industry and primary production are being investigated, from which it is also possible to produce large volumes of dyes.
Cooperation opportunities are also explored with dye houses and color wholesalers in the paper and packaging industry. Small companies in the textile industry are also possible partners. The use of natural colors gives them a significant distinguishing factor. Domestic and international networks are a key means of moving development work forward. Natural Indigo Finland is involved in the Finnish BioColour research project, which develops new methods for producing and using bio dyes. Also, important networks are ExpandFibre, which accelerates the development of sustainable bioproducts, and HEREWEAR, which creates a market for locally produced textiles made from bio based materials
”The production of bio based dyes is a field of the future that combines the creation of new, creating value, responsible business, new jobs, and the opportunity to grow globally,” says Pasi Ainasoja, the founder of Natural Indigo Finland from Nivala
