What do you know about Biogas?
Through the processing of various types of organic waste Biogas is produced. It is an environmentally friendly fuel made from 100% local feedstocks that is suitable for a diversity of uses including road vehicle fuel and for different industries uses.
Nivala is known for being Finland’s largest industrial town and a part of the vibrant countryside. For companies, it provides comprehensive services and a favorable environment for the development of sustainable business. There is a great opportunity to built biogas plant in Nivala to produce biofuel.
The opportunity for methane production from agricultural side streams
The Nivala region is a prospective place for creation the leading producer of biogas and its refined products as well as a producer of bio-based recycling fertilizers and soil improvement substances
180 000 tons of manure is produced in Nivala per year, of which most is accessible within a 10 km radius*. In the satellite model, the biogas production takes place in biogas ecosytems with two or more reactors and a centralized refinery plant.
The production of biogas:
- Increases Finland’s security of supply, food and energy self-sufficiency year round.
- Reduces carbon dioxide and methane emmisions in transportation and agriculture and the flow of nutrients into the waters.
- Brings 6 800 tons of recycled phosphurus and 32 000 tons of recycled nitrogen for agricultural use per year(SBB).
- Enables the production of bedding and substrate from vegetable production waste.
Logistics and location:
7 500 vehicles flow through the busy Kokkola-Kajaani road crossroads per day (Transport Infrastructure Agency).
Transportation flows well via road and rail to larger cities and harbors:
Oulu – Oritkari harbor 150 km
Raahe – Lapaluoto harbor 110 km
Kokkola – harbors 100 km
Kalajoki – Rahja harbor 70 km
