Artist residences offer time and space for creativity

Kattilakoski Culture Cooperative is located in Kärsämäki and it is the thriving force behind the local cultural scene. The cooperative creates new international connections with the help of artist residence programs and European voluntary service projects.

Members of the cooperation are cultural associations with their own main focuses; Art association Elsuupa is responsible for the annual Ars Kärsämäki, a recognized contemporary art summer exhibition. Shingle Church Support Association maintains the world-renowned modern wooden church that was built at the beginning of this decade using methods from the 18th century. ”Music in the Shingle Church” association arranges a yearly three-day classical music festival.

The Kattilakoski Culture Cooperative cooperates with educational institutions and event organizers in the region. We are also a partner of the Oulu2026 Capital of Culture project.

The residences offer artists the opportunity to focus on making their own art in an inspiring environment. The working conditions are peaceful, and good services are available nearby.
Representatives of different art forms can work in the residence alone or as part of a community. The residence period is usually one to six months, and our residences have a continuous application process.
